About Accent Letter

What this site is

Accent Letter is a free tool for copying accented characters and for learning to type them yourself. Tap or click a letter and it goes straight to your clipboard. Under it you get the exact keyboard shortcut for the device you are reading on, with the alternatives for every other platform kept close by.

Who it is for

Four groups use it most. Students writing homework or an essay in Spanish, French, German, Polish or Portuguese, who need é, ñ, ü, ç and ł without fighting the keyboard. Professionals typing names correctly in email, invoices and documents, because Müller, Chloë, Łukasz and Beyoncé deserve the right letters. Developers and writers who want the code point, the HTML entity and the official Unicode name next to the character itself. And phone users, where an accented letter is a long press away once you know which key to hold.

Shortcuts ordered for your machine

Most accent references are a wall of shortcuts for systems you do not own. This site reads the operating system your browser reports and puts that method first: Alt codes and the Windows emoji panel at the top on Windows, Option key combinations on a Mac, the Compose key and Ctrl+Shift+U on Linux, long press on iPhone and Android. Nothing is hidden. The other platforms stay on the same page, just further down, so a shared or borrowed computer is never a dead end.

How the shortcuts are checked

Every shortcut published here is verified against Microsoft documentation, Apple documentation and the X.Org (freedesktop) Compose tables, and every character name, code point and decomposition comes from the Unicode charts rather than from recycled blog posts. Where a platform genuinely has no shortcut for a character, the page says so instead of inventing one. If something does not work on your keyboard, that is worth an email.

Languages and tools

Accent Letter reads in English, Spanish, French, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, German and Polish, and covers the characters used by 28 written languages. Alongside the character pages there are text tools such as Remove accents from text, which run entirely in your browser. Nothing you paste into them leaves your device.

How it is run

Accent Letter is operated by an independent publisher rather than a company, and it is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. There are no accounts and nothing to sign up for. Your recently copied list and your favourites live in your browser localStorage and are never sent to a server. There is currently no advertising, and privacy friendly aggregate analytics without cookies is the only measurement used.
