Typing Dutch on your keyboard
The Netherlands uses the US-International layout, so every Dutch letter comes from a dead key: the quote key then e gives ë, the apostrophe then e gives é, the backtick then e gives è. The side effect is the famous annoyance where typing an apostrophe or a quotation mark before a vowel swallows the key. press Space after it to get the bare punctuation mark. In Flanders the Belgian AZERTY is used instead, and on a plain US layout the Alt codes and Mac shortcuts on this page are the way in.
