Typing French on your keyboard

Standard French AZERTY puts é è à ù ç on direct keys in lowercase, and the circumflex and tréma dead keys cover â ê î ô û ë ï ü in both cases. What it does not give you is the accented capitals É È À Ù Ç or the ligatures œ and æ, which is why Alt+0201 and friends are searched so often. The 2019 AFNOR layout adds them, but adoption is slow, so most people still need the methods on this site.
