Typing Finnish on your keyboard
The Finnish keyboard is the Nordic one: ä and ö are ordinary keys, å sits beside them for Swedish names, and vowel harmony makes all three essential. Only š and ž, used in loanwords and transliteration, have no key of their own and need AltGr on the multilingual layout or an Alt code. Anyone writing Finnish on a US or UK keyboard has to fall back on the methods on this page.
Hard to type on the Finnish QWERTY (Nordic) / Finnish multilingual layout
