Typing Vietnamese on your keyboard
Vietnamese is almost never typed on a physical Vietnamese layout: people use the Telex or VNI input method on an ordinary US QWERTY keyboard, built into Windows since version 1903 and available on macOS, Android and iOS. Telex builds letters from key sequences. aa gives â, aw gives ă, dd gives đ, and s f r x j add the five tone marks. If the IME is not installed, the 134 precomposed letters have to be copied, which is what the grids on this site are for.
